BRAZIL'S FIRST TERRITORY
FREE OF SINGLE-USE
Noronha Plástico Zero came from a dream, but with one certainty: it is possible to transform the whole world through the example of an island without single-use plastic. We are from the team that believes that the transforming force is in each individual, and also in collective action. The project was implemented after the adoption of District Decree 02/2018, which prohibits the entry, use and sale of single-use disposable plastic in Fernando de Noronha. The Decree became effective on April 11, 2019.
NO SINGLE-USE PLASTIC HERE!
YOU ARE PART OF NATURE
4 STEPS OF THIS JOURNEY
Conscious consumption is transformative. Through a partnership with the Fernando de Noronha Administration/ Government of the State of Pernambuco, and the support of social and environmental impact companies Menos 1 Lixo and Iönica, a 4-step journey was conceived: rethink, regenerate, reuse and resignify. In this trajectory, developed from a cycle that begins, ends and starts again, each of the actions has enormous value and the power to make a difference inside and outside Noronha—uniting society in a humanized way, with a more welcoming vision, aware of the relevance of each one of us in the transformation of our Planet.
AN IMPACT PROJECT
The Fernando de Noronha Administration / Government of the State of Pernambuco becomes a reference in social and environmental public policies aimed at tackling plastic pollution. The Program has direct positive impacts on the environmental quality of the Island and the quality of life of its inhabitants.
With the support and engagement of residents, business owners, visitors and partners, including the impact businesses Menos 1 Lixo and Iönica, actions that are in line with the National Plan to Combat Marine Waste and the Sustainable Development Goals are being developed, making the scope of the Program exceed the limits of the Archipelago, contributing to the Planet and the health of the oceans. Noronha is taking steps to become the most sustainable territory in Brazil.
For HEINEKEN no Brasil, partner of Noronha Plástico Zero, the project is a source of pride and reflects the beliefs of the Company, which are in line with its strategy to ensure business continuity and contribute to the future of this and future generations. With less waste, especially plastic and glass, the idea is to stimulate effective behavior change, either through education, and especially through positive attitudes from public and private initiatives down to each citizen.
OUR GOALS TO THE
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) bring together 17 global goals set by the UN General Assembly. The SDGs cover issues of social and economic development.
These are the objectives of Noronha Plástico Zero:
The Noronha Plastic Zero Project emerged from the District Decree 02/2018 signed in December 2018 by Guilherme Rocha, general administrator of Fernando de Noronha Island.
Scary, but it's real. Brazil is among the 5 largest producers of plastic waste in the world, with 11 million tons produced per year, behind only the United States
Selective collection is a basic right for all of us, but little guaranteed by public policies in general. Brazil has a very low recycling rate: only 3%
